того, чтобы общаться с представителями других культур. Сегодня 
владение иностранным языком является очень важным аспектом 
общения, путешествий и бизнеса. Английский язык является языком 
международного общения. На нём говорят во всём мире, практически

угодно! Английский язык стал универсальным для всех людей нашей

Мы, создавая учебник, который вы сейчас держите в руках, ставили 
перед собой две важные цели: во-первых, научить вас грамотно 
общаться на английском языке и, во-вторых, сделать так, чтобы в процессе

Первый цикл учебника “Learn to live, live to learn” затрагивает

Второй цикл “Travel” рассказывает о путешествиях и поездках.

В третьем цикле “The individual and society” рассматриваются проблемы 
современного общества, типы общества и его роль в нашей жизни, 
распространённые стереотипы по отношению к странам изучаемого 
языка и России, проблемы взросления. Вы также узнаете о том, что 
такое «ролевые модели», прочитаете текст о национальном характере 
и узнаете об официальных церемониях в разных странах.
Четвёртый цикл “Relations and family” рассказывает о семейных взаимоотношениях, 
о важности дружбы и общения, о необходимости оказывать 
помощь близким людям. Вы прочитаете тексты о проблемах подростков, 
о том, как разрешить конфликтные ситуации в школе и дома, и 
о том, как важно заботиться о своём здоровье и здоровье своих близких.
Пятый цикл “The media” расскажет о средствах массовой информации 
прошлого и настоящего, познакомит вас с профессией журналиста, 
рекламой и с современным понятием «гражданская журналистика». 
Вы прочитаете информацию об истории СМИ, об их роли в 
современном мире, научитесь писать газетные статьи.
В шестом цикле “The world of work” речь пойдёт о современных тенденциях 
в трудоустройстве и мире бизнеса, о важности правильного выбора 
профессии, о том, как вести себя в новом коллективе, и о необходимых 
навыках межличностного общения. Вы также узнаете о необычных 
профессиях и о том, какая работа считается самой лучшей в мире.

Циклы разделены на части (Part A, Part B, Part C), каждая из 
которых имеет разворот с тренировочными упражнениями на закрепление 
изученного материала (Practice). В каждом цикле также есть 
специальные тематические разделы: урок чтения (Extended reading), 
разделы, направленные на развитие межпредметных связей (Cross-
curricular studies), межкультурных связей (Window on the world), и 
раздел, посвящённый родной культуре (Russian corner). Кроме того, 
в каждом цикле есть раздел для самопроверки (Checkpoint), в котором 
предлагаются задания и упражнения, оценивающие ваше знание

SCHOOL IS NOT JUST BOOK LEARNING!
Welcome to the Babylon website!
Here we are: Viktor, Yuri, Sergey and Dmitry.

Well, first a few general things about us and an update about what goes on is 
going on in the band at the moment. Originally, we are all coming all come from 
Sochi near the Caucasus Mountains. Perhaps you know our home town. Sochi is 
very close to the mountains, so we are all going skiing every winter.

Three of us don’t live in Sochi permanently anymore, but we sometimes are 
going home at weekends, and we often are giving concerts there. Viktor is still 
going to school in Sochi. Usually he isn’t liking school much. Just now he does his 
final exams, so he’s not happy at all.

Viktor is playing the bass guitar. Yuri is our lead guitarist and singer. He 
usually is writing the lyrics for our songs, but for our new single I am writing 
them. Sergey is on keyboard. I’m on drums. We usually meet twice a week for band 
practice, but this week we don’t meet at all because of Viktor’s exams. Just now 
we work on new songs for our second album.

By the way, Babylon is playing at the Open Air Festival in Moscow on Saturday 
1st June, so if you are living close by or if you are in the area, come and see us.
