1.1.
Do you have breakfast every day? What do you prefer to have for
breakfast? Let’s talk about it.

At breAkfAst

Helina:
Good morning . How well have you slept?

Mr . Taylor: Good morning . I’ve slept rather well . It was raining the whole
night .

Helina:
Really . But now it is sunny . I hope it will be a good day .
What would you like to have for breakfast?

Mr. Taylor: A cooked breakfast, I think.

Helina:
OK. I’ll make your favourite English breakfast: bacon, fried
eggs, mushrooms, and tomatoes.

Mr. Taylor: Thank you! I suppose it will be a good day for riding bikes.
What do you think about riding after breakfast?

Helina:
It will be wonderful! We haven’t ridden bikes for a long
time .

Answer the questions.

1. What was the weather like last night?
2. What does Mr. taylor want to have for breakfast?
3. What does Mr. taylor suggest doing?

1.2.
How often do you use the internet? If you use it very often, explain
why. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using it? Make up
a conversation.

Using the internet

Ally:
What are you doing?

Brian:
I am trying to find some information on the net. I’ve bet Dirk
that the first modern Olympic Games were held in France.

Ally:
Have you found what you were looking for, because I happen
to know they were held in Greece .

Brian:
Yes, you are right. I’ve lost this bet.

Ally:
The internet is a great invention. Before, it took me a lot of
time to find any information in the books.

Brian:
You are completely right, I agree with you, but some people
get addicted .

Ally:
I had a pupil in my class . Two years ago he quit school .

Brian:
I can guess . He started playing computer games all the time .

Ally:
Yes, it’s terrible, but you are right. Parents can’t make him study
or work .

Brian:
It’s a mental problem, to tell you the truth, and it’s very difficult
to cure .

Answer the questions.

1. What information is Brian trying to find on the net? Why?
2. What does Ally say about the internet?
3. What happened with a pupil from Ally’s class? Why?

DreAMs AboUt the fUtUre

Harris: Have you ever dreamed about life in the future?

Cindy: Yes, I have. Especially when I don’t want to clean my flat.
I dream about different gadgets which are able to do it instead
of me .

Harris: So do I. Everything is done, cleaned, cooked after just giving
commands when coming into the flat. “Bake my favourite cake!”
“Iron my best trousers!”

Cindy: It can be wonderful! But there can be some disadvantages.
People will become very lazy .

Harris: Yes, you are right. And they won’t be able to create and
invent .

Cindy: Yes, there’ll be a planet of stupid humans and smart robots.
Really, it is very interesting to imagine it.

Harris: There are a lot of advantages and disadvantages of technical
progress .

Cindy: Do you agree that it’s impossible to stop it?

Harris: We’ll see about that .

Answer the questions.

1. When does Cindy usually dream about different gadgets?
2. Who will become very lazy? Why?

1.4.

about it.

neighboUrs’ ConversAtion

Hello! I can see you are packing things. Are you going
to move?

Tami:
Hi, yes, we are. I want to live closer to my parents. They are
getting older .

Alan:
Do they live near the coast?

Tami:
Yes, they do. They live in Liverpool. We have already bought
a new house there .

Alan:
And what about your job? You’ve just got a new position,
as I remember .

Tami:
Yes, it’s frustrating. I’m very pleased with it but I have to
leave it .

Alan:
Is it possible to get a job there?

Gabby, are you invited to Mona’s birthday party?

Gabby: Yes, I am. Why?

Bert:

Gabby: Flowers?
I don’t
know
exactly .
I’m
going

give
her
a flower pot and I’ve grown white gloxinia for her. She has

Sammy: Hi, Alan. It seems like it was only yesterday when we went
to school . Life passes by very quickly .

Alan:
You look fantastic, just like a model. What do you do
for a living?

Sammy: I work in an estate agency .

Alan:
Estate agency? Are you an estate agent?

Sammy:
No, no, just an administrative assistant. It’s only a part time
job.

Alan:
Have you graduated from the University?

Sammy:
Not yet, but in July I hope I will get my master’s degree.
What about you?
